The Government has supported proposals to build 48,100 new homes in the Poole/Bournemouth area.
The Examination in Public's recommendations for the area were upheld by the Government and these include an extra 2750 homes in the Lytchett Minster area and 700 homes in Corfe Mullen. Both of these developments would be in the current green belt.
I believe that the battle has now got to reach new heights. All is not lost but we cannot underestimate how difficult it is going to be. There is an opportunity to make the most of the consultation period to put forward detailed, evidence based arguments as to why these developments should not go ahead. The consultation period has now been extended by one week and representations can be made up to 24th October. You can write with your views to the Regional Planning Team, Government Office for the South West, 2 Rivergate, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6ED.There is also a Comments Form on the Government Office South West's website
Individual letters are the most powerful form of representation but in addition I am organising a parliamentary petition which I shall present in the House of Commons. You may sign this online by clicking on the petition box.
I am very conscious that we need more affordable housing for local young people but I do not think that these large scale developments will provide for these vital needs. I believe that much smaller scale developments in particular communities are needed and should be planned in conjunction with individual communities.
I am including articles and speeches on this site which expand on how I am putting my constituents views forward. I hope you find this site useful.
